This author has been a tree hugger long before the first Earth Day (1970, history nerds), therefore, I’d thought e-books were the answer to any environmental debate concerning paper and trees. Plus, I abhor clutter. An I-pad full of books saves trees, space, a lot of bookcases, boxes, and dusting. I don’t dust. E-books were going to save the world. They were the only way to tell a story.
Until Gma.
My mother-in-law, Gma, is the reigning character in her nursing home. Yesterday I presented her with a paperback version of my second romantic suspense, Swamp Secret.
“Lord, would everyone look? My Eleanor published another book!”
The other residents cheered and clapped even though the majority had no idea whether she wanted medicine or a diaper change. She held Swamp Secret high over her head and grinned until her dentures danced. Her eyes were wide with pride and her wrinkles seemed to iron themselves down to a minimum.
When she turned to me the love I saw created an attitude. Paperbacks do have a place in our world as do the elderly. I love you too, Gma.
